Turok: Son of Stone
I must say that I have only a fleeting knowledge of this character from comicdom. Turok (voiced by Adam Breach) is a Native American warrior who, even unknown to him, has an unbridled fury residing inside of him. It is the scene where he is out with his brother and the girl that they both like when we learn that his blood boils when a battle is at hand, and it is a bloodlust that puts Turok on the outs with the rest of his tribe. Think Native American Hulk without the transformation, and without the blind less rage. After he cuts loose and brings those that, he loves into harms way Turok becomes an isolationist. Most people would try to find a way to appease those that they have made angry, but not Turok. He represents that man who does not apologize for what he does. It is what it is.
Turok: Son of Stone starts off looking like your traditional animated movie, but please do not let that fool you. Within the first five minutes, Turok is setting it off with animated blood and guts spraying this way and that. Moreover, if you thought that the bloodshed would end with that scene you would be extremely disappointed. If you are a fan of other comicdom such as the animated Spawn that was on pay cable all those years ago you are in luck.
Although the film is bloody, I found myself enjoying the animated version of Turok. There is no apology to the movie. This is a movie for a more adult crowd that does not mind seeing animated reality violence.
I would say the best part of the movie is when they travel into the unknown lands, which they call the underworld. When you have beast that you have not seen for millennium trying to make you their next meal it does not hurt to have someone of Turok’s character in your circle.
All in all this was a good film. I would not recommend it for children of a certain age, but if they are in their teens, it is probably nothing that they have not seen on television already. It comes in at seventy-three minutes and most of that is straight action and adventure. Enjoy.
