This is the film that started it all. Released in May of the year of 1977, who could have imagined that this film would spawn five more films or that it would bring new imagination into the realm of film. Although this film is the originator there have now been three films that serve as prequels to it.

Our story starts off with the greatest of villains storming aboard an enemy ship. His name, Darth Vader (David Prowse), and he would come to be known as one of the greatest villains of all time. It wouldn't be until later on that he would be revealed as the evil form of the Jedi, known as a Sith, or that he was on assignment for a being of even greater evil than himself. Darth Vader served only one master, but his fire would never be extinguished as he tried to eliminate the Jedi. But although his time on screen was memorable, the film wasn't really his story. The story of this Star Wars belonged to a young man known as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

Luke Skywalker is a young farm boy who looks out among the stars, and only wishes that he could escape to them. Something is drawing him to the stars (a greater purpose maybe). When he repairs an old droid he unlocks a message calling for help, and it propels him on a journey into the stars.

I can still remember the first time I had the opportunity to see Star Wars. It filled me with a wonder that still spurs me to watch it today. My young mind could imagine a lot, but Star Wars put it into a visually, fantastic form that held my attention the entire time. Even now, I can look back upon the film and see elements of it that I couldn't see then. The themes representative of the bible are meshed in throughout‚ and the light sabers to me are representative of the middle ages brought into the future.

This will remain one of the best out of the six‚ and if you haven’t seen this one‚ rush out and rent it on DVD.
