Review of:Elektra (2005)
Director: Rob Bowman
Rating:PG-13 for action violence.
Starring: Jennifer Garner, Goran Visnjic, Terence Stamp, Jason Isaacs, Will Yun Lee
The makers of Daredevil should be ashamed. That’s what I thought after seeing the electrifying Electra. How could you not take a blind character into the movie house‚ that had superhuman capabilities nonetheless‚ and make him as bland as hospital food?
Elektra(Jennifer Gardner) definitely doesn’t suffer from the same problems. The film starts out strong‚ and ends even stronger.
In the film Daredevil we are led to believe that Elektra Natchios is dead. Not if movie magic has anything to say about it! She is brought back by the man she calls master‚ called Stick (Terence Stamp). She trains alongside him until she is set upon her own path. The path she chooses happens to be as a paid assassin‚ no questions asked.
We learn of a battle that has been going on through the ages with a evil group called the Hand. Daredevil has had many fights with this organization as well. The main focus of the film is trying to keep “The Treasure” safe. The treasure happens to be a young girl named Abby who has many of the qualities of Elektra‚ she’s just younger. The problem is that Elektra has been hired to assassinate Abby Miller‚ and her father Mark‚ played by Goran Visjnic.
Will Elektra assassinate this young prodigy that reminds her so much of herself or will she do what’s right and save them from what she knows is coming next? We all know the answer (this is a superhero flick after all)‚ and Elektra soon finds herself in the middle of the coming storm. Facing off against the forces of the Hand‚ which are led by Kirigi.
The film does an excellent job with it’s special effects‚ and I was most impressed with the character of Tattoo‚ who seems to be able to bring them to life. The action was nonstop.
