If you are like most people you probably think that you know the whole story behind the ship called the Mayflower. Yes, we know that the pilgrims crossed over on this grand ship to start a colony, and for some of us we can even name the settlement that they made when they arrived here (Plymouth Rock). But what would you say if I told you that the story of the Mayflower had many more layers to it, and that the mechanisms that went into their arriving here are as interesting as their first meeting with the Indians? Well, after viewing the fabulous film ‘Desperate Crossing: The Untold Story of the Mayflower’ I can tell you with little hesitancy that this film will open your eyes to some things.
I’ll be the first to admit that I had a hard time popping in the DVD screener that was sent to me. I’d get to it I thought, knowing full well that I could write a legitimate review of the film based off of the things I remembered from the story almost twenty years ago (that’s when I was still in highschool). It’s even worse when you realize that I think of myself as a history buff to a point. When I finally decided to pop in the DVD from the History Channels upcoming story (World Premiere Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 8pm ET/PT) I sat back to be bored. Well, I’m here to tell you today that this DVD might very well change your life or at least three hours of your afternoon.
So what made me change my mind on the contents of aforementioned DVD? Just the chance opportunity to view it, and to learn within the first five minutes information that I had never heard before. Let me state the fact right now this movie has a lot of information that I have never heard before. The Untold Story of the Mayflower definitely lives up to its name by using historical documents such as the diary of William Bradford. Just some of the things that you might learn are where the pilgrims came from and how the monarchy really felt about them. I had never asked myself these questions but the film goes into how the money was gathered for the money, and what was really at stake for these pilgrims.
I highly advise to sit down for a few hours and check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
