In life, some of the best times I can remember are when I was young boy and my mother would take time out of her busy day to read me a bedtime story. It was a time when your imagination could soar along with the story, and you could imagine yourself in far away places and new adventures. The sad part about life is that sometimes you have to grow up, and the things that were important to use in our youth fall by the wayside. Bedtime stories, I believe, is an attempt to bring some of that fresh childhood to the big screen.
The story follows hotel handyman Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler). He has spent his whole life in this one particular hotel, and even though the promise made to his father long ago has not come to fruition, he is steadfast in his loyalty. His life is changed forever though when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true. Feeling this is his big chance to rectify his life he attempts to take advantage of the phenomenon, incorporating his own aspirations into one outlandish tale after another, but it is the kids' unexpected contributions that turn Skeeter's life upside down.
I found this film to be funny at times, but it lacked the true imagination that could have come from such a great concept. Just think of all the infinite possibilities that could have been put into this film and you will understand why I felt it was lacking on that part. Even with that, this film is one that you can watch with the family, and enjoy on a rainy day.
